If they don’t – even after going through this guide several times – music theory might not be for you. In which case you’re probably better of focussing your energy on expanding your musical hearing. That is if you are trying to learn music theory in order to improve your improvisational skills (only handy if you also play an instrument on a decent level).

If you want to better communicate with fellow musicians, read sheet music – if even just to check your notes for example – transpose melodies or write your own charts, music theory is a necessity.
