Do you also find yourself glued behind a computer? Way too often? Just checkin’ mails. Just following the news. Just getting lured into the next scandal about Brad & Angelina, the next brave dog saving cute little kittens.

Hm. The scenes can be hilariously funny. Yes, laughter is good for you.

But we have to admit – we can do better than that!

Could have trained our voice. Could have written a love song. Could have helped a granny passing over.

Louis Armstrong, the one and only, once said:

“If I don’t practice for a day, I know it. If I don’t practice for two days, the critics know it. If I don’t practice for three days, the public knows it.”

Ouch! That hurts!

So what’s the solution, girls & boys?

I have an idea.

Be aware.

It’s very old school.

It starts with a ‘D’.

The ‘D’ from:

Discipline. Drive. Drilling.

Some call it self-mastery.

Where to begin? How about:

Assign a certain time in your diary for yourself and your study. Every day! Mornings are usually the best for your energy and focus. Don’t let anyone entice you into festive morning coffee’s. (Not even me…)

I once heard a radio interview with the wonderful Dutch author Arthur Japin: he writes everyday. Every single day. Between 8 – 12 am. Even if he does not have any inspiration. He will tug himself to his desk, tie himself to his chair and write, write, write.

Let’s all do that, starting from tomorrow: sing, sing, sing. Everyday. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes. Do your favorite exercises. Do ‘m a bit slower the next day. Do ‘m a bit faster the day after. Be wild. Be creative. Think of your own variations ?

Also include exercises that challenge you, so you will be making quite some progress too.

Your voice will loooooove you! And Louis will be proud of ya!
